Staff/Senior Accountant Financial Reporting

General purpose of position

Supporting role in the financial reporting group.  Mission of the financial reporting group is to manage, coordinate, compile, review and file all requirements listed below on time, with a high degree of accuracy and quality in a SOX compliant manner. General ledger support for special projects such as acquisitions and reorganizations.  General ledger reports daily.

Primary duties/responsibilities

·         Requirements:

1.       Understanding of financial statements,

2.       General accounting knowledge,

3.       Insurance knowledge preferred but not required

4.       XBRL knowledge preferred but not required

·         Responsibilities of Role:                                                 

1.       Prepare templates for various reports

2.       Request and collect supporting documentation required for report preparation

3.       Follow up with providers of information to resolve discrepancies and obtain variance explanations for assigned footnote disclosures

4.       Prepare tie out of financial statements and footnotes to supporting documents for management review on a quarterly and annual basis

5.       Review XBRL tags for SEC quarterly filings and perform validation checks

6.       Coordinate all report preparation, mailings and filings

7.       Prepare deadline calendar on the quarterly basis

 

·         Coordination of financial reporting reviews with external and internal auditors and SOX team

 

·         Overtime is required during each quarterly/annual close and in certain cases of special projects. (Quarterly: approx. 3 weeks of overtime.  Year end: approx. 6 weeks of overtime) (Regular time – generally 9am-6pm.  Overtime: approximately 9).

 

 

The following are the main reports produced by Assured’s financial reporting group:

·         GAAP financial statements (SEC registrant (10K and 10Qs and multiple subsidiaries). Quarterly and/or annually.

·         Financial supplements (SEC registrant and subsidiaries). Quarterly.

·         Board book. Quarterly.

·         Analytics (GAAP and statutory). Quarterly.

·         Statutory financial statements, MD&A and exhibits (three subsidiaries and one combined). Quarterly and/or annually.

·         Review of Equity and Fixed Income presentations. Quarterly.

·         Earnings release and financial supplements. Quarterly.

·         CFO scripts (quarterly) and review of other press releases. Quarterly.

·         Bermuda Solvency II filings. Annually.

·         Bureau of Economic Analysis (BE) forms. Quarterly and annually.

Specific skills, competencies, resources and/or software/technology used on the job

·       

·         Strong organizational and time-management skills, ability to multi-task and meet deadlines

·         Strong verbal and written communication skills, analytical and problem-solving skills

·         Working knowledge of Peoplesoft general ledger preferred

·         High proficiency in Excel, Word, PPT

·         Self-motivated, reliable and consistent

·         Flexibility and ability to work overtime

Education, certifications and/or experience requirements

  Bachelor’s degree with a business major, preferably accounting

·         CPA license preferred

·         1-4 years of US GAAP/Statutory financial reporting experience (filing quarterly/annual statements and related schedules)

·         Insurance industry experience preferred (financial guaranty insurance preferred)
