Vice President/ Director Tax

General purpose of position

Responsible for completing complex federal income tax returns and related workpapers including M-1/M-3 tax adjustment schedules for insurance and non-insurance companies.

Primary duties/responsibilities


Review of state premium and municipal tax returns
Review of quarterly federal and state estimated tax payment calculations along with extensions and related filings.
Responsible for completion of GAAP (ASC 740) and Statutory (SSAP 101) income tax provisions and supporting documentation.  This includes the calculation and review of deferred tax inventory items and maintenance and reconciliation of consolidated current and deferred tax balance sheet accounts.
Preparation and review of annual current provision to tax return true-up calculation.
Preparation and review of tax provision and related financial statement disclosures in connection with GAAP and Statutory financial statement audits.
Managing responses to all audit examiners including IRS and state.
Manage Sarbanes-Oxley documentation of tax process and procedures and examination by auditors of financial statements.
Perform tax research and preparation of tax memorandums.

Keep up-to-date on latest developments as they affect tax regulations and policies.
Managing 3-4 members of the tax department.

Specific skills, competencies, resources and/or software/technology used on the job


Experience managing professional staff.
Federal, State and multi-State income taxation compliance experience.  Some insurance tax experience is preferred.
Solid foundation of GAAP (ASC 740) and Statutory (SSAP 101) tax provision experience is a plus.
Solid PC skills, including Microsoft Windows, Office applications and tax preparation software (FAST-Tax/Go-systems). PeopleSoft skills a plus.
Be a highly-motivated self-starter and successful in a "Team" oriented setting.
Be able to quickly process information and master complex concepts.
Possess a solid understanding of accounting theory, tax and accounting practices.
Have exceptional organizational skills with excellent attention to detail.
Be able to work under pressure, multi-task and meet deadlines.
Have strong interpersonal skills and excellent communication skills (both verbal and written), including ability to simplify and communicate complex business information.

Education, certifications and/or experience requirements


8 to 12 years of tax experience in public accounting or a corporate tax department.
CPA or graduate degree preferred.
