Director of Financial Reporting

General purpose of position

Assured Guaranty is seeking a Director of Financial Reporting. The Director of Financial Reporting will be responsible for all aspects of SEC, GAAP, and statutory reporting.

Primary duties/responsibilities

  • All aspects of SEC, GAAP and statutory reporting
  • Analytical review and understanding of all disclosures in US regulatory reports filed with external parties (SEC, Insurance Depts, BE, etc.). This will include:

         - Critical review (and sometimes compilation) of supporting documentation and consistency of various reporting documents

         - Original drafting of new disclosures and updating of recurring disclosures
         - Independent “numbers-check” and “fact-check” for all disclosures
         - XBRL
         - Maintain consistency among and between all reports, including review of reports filed by other areas with foreign regulatory bodies
         - Performance of reporting SOX controls
         - Keep abreast of new disclosure requirements
         - Coordinate with Legal, Investor Relations, and other areas
         - Coordinate day to day timing and comments from PwC

  • Preparation and analytical review of selected calculations and disclosures including:

         - Diluted share calculations
         - Non-GAAP measures
         - MD&A

  • Business owner of Peoplesoft general ledger module:

         - Chart of accounts, security, workflow, user acceptance testing of upgrades and improvements.
         - In-depth understanding of reporting structures, consolidation and equitization rules

  • Business owner of Workiva reporting platform (security, access, cost management)
  • Maintain and update key controls, procedures and disclosure policies for the group
  • Prepare and analyze management and BOD reporting
  • Manage a team of 7 accountants
  • Manage reporting department expenses and vendor relationships
  • Other recurring reporting requirements and ad hoc requests for information

Specific skills, competencies, resources and/or software/technology used on the job

  • Strong technical accounting skills
  • Financial services experience (public asset management and insurance industry preferable)
  • Highly organized with strong project management skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, and strong interpersonal skills
  • Attention to detail, precision and timeliness
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Willingness and ability to compile as well as review and analyze information received
  • Controls-focused approach to responsibilities

Education, certifications and/or experience requirements

  • Approximately 10-15 years of financial reporting and accounting experience in complex accounting environment
  • BS in Accounting
